The Mercer Health Weight Management Center offers surgical weight loss to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
The sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive weight loss procedure that creates a thin, vertical sleeve of stomach. The size of the stomach is reduced to the size and shape of a banana, and the rest of the stomach is removed. This surgery creates a smaller stomach, limiting the amount of food you can eat and helps you feel fuller sooner.
Weight loss surgery is appropriate for those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 40, or a BMI of 35 or higher with one or more obesity-related health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea. To calculate your BMI, click here.
