            The Medical, Educational, and Development (MED) Foundation of Mercer County Community Hospital held its annual Esmonde-Homan Memorial Golf Outing recently at the Mercer County Elks Country Club with 27 teams participating. This annual event is held to raise funds for the MED Foundation Memorial Scholarship Program.

            The Citizen’s Bank team won the men’s division. It included Rod Stover, Mike Romey, Chris Dippold, and Don Bender. Second place went to Jim Kemper, Jamie Kuhn, Alan Albers, and Kerry Mitchell. Third place finishers were Tim Garner, Bill Schmelzer, Mike Gettings, and Joe Mesarvey.

            Taking first place in the women’s division was Diane Lefeld, Dona Bruns, Bonnie Knapschaefer, and Peggy Muhlenkamp. Second place team included Nancy Hartke, Mary Ellen Kremer, Judy Stemley, and Cindy Rainey. There was no third place team.

            Jackie Huwer, Jason Hemmelgarn, Dan Kasinec, and Duane Kimball won the co-ed division. The second place team was Dean Thresher, Dr. Jean Thresher, Dr. Rick Kesselring, and Dr. Peter White. Third place was won by Rob Gross, Marie Gross, Jim Harting and Elaine Harting.

            This year’s “Golf Ball Drop” was won by Ellen Sudhoff. Numbered golf balls were dropped over a marked hole. The first ball into the hole was the winner. She won $1915.

As part of the Golf Ball Drop, there was also a drawing for a four day, three night stay at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Chicago. That was won by Elmer Eyink.

            No players were able to get a hole in one on the fifth hole. If someone would have, they would have won a new car from the sponsor - St. Marys Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Inc.

            Corporate sponsors for the event included Preferred Insurance Center, Community Sports & Therapy Center, Avid Medical/Owens & Minor, Knapschaefer Insurance, LCC, Ohio Health Choice, HCF Management, Inc., T-102 Clear Channel, First Financial Bank, Alta Partners LLC, and Baxter Pharmaceutical Company.

Holes sponsors were divided into three separate levels. The top level – Eagle sponsorship included Great American Insurance and MedBen Insurance. Birdie level sponsors – the second tier – included Moeller Trucking, Inc., Bricker & Eckler, LLP, Von Lehman & Company, Inc., St. Henry Bank, Innovative Office Solutions, Wabash Mutual Telephone Co., Kerns GM Center, E.S. Evans & Company, U.S. Food Service, McCrate, Delate & Co., and Reick Service.

Par sponsors were Pax Machine Works, The Peoples Bank Co., Perry Corporation, Cooper Farms, Stammen Insurance, McDonald Restaurants, True North Custom Media, CAPT, SMS pro Tech, Lefeld Implement, Coldwater, West Central Ohio Healthcare Alliance, Key Bridge Management, Alliance One and Citizens National Bank. RB Advertising donated the golf balls given to each player at this year’s event. Golf Cart sponsors included Coldwater Lumber Company and Celina Manor.

            Businesses donating items for the tournament’s raffle were Ace Hardware, Back to Nature, Bella's Italian Grille, Briarwood Retirement Village, Calico Restaurant, Dairy Queen, Celina Manor, Celina Wine Store, Coldwater Flowers, Community Sports & Therapy Center, CVS Pharmacy, Distinct Images, Domino’s Pizza, EMB Design, Holiday Inn Express, Hospitality Gift Shop, Insight Public Sector Healthcare, Kaup Pharmacy, Knapschaefer Insurance, Laudick's Jewelry, Lefeld Implement, McDonald’s Rest., Med Ben Insurance, Mercer County Elks, Mr. Shoppe, Pizza Hut, Pla Mor Lanes, Proforma, Preferred Insurance Center, Schwieterman Pharmacy, Town Tavern, Von Lehman & Company, Wal-Mart, and WIMT-T102 Clear Channel.      

Proceeds from this tournament benefit the MED Foundation Memorial Scholarship Program. Since its beginning in 1992, this program has awarded over $170,000 in financial assistance to students graduating from schools in Mercer County and who are pursuing careers in medical professions that would benefit local residents.
